
Lori Kels, MD, MPH, FAPA
Chair of Clinical Science Faculty, Associate Professor of Psychiatry Clinical and Applied Science Education Email: kels@uiwtx.eduDr. Lori Kels is a board-certified psychiatrist and serves as Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. She is a Professor of Psychiatry and has been a faculty member at UIWSOM since 2017.
Dr. Kels received her BS in marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her MD from the University of Nevada and her MPH from the University of Southern California. Dr. Kels completed her residency in psychiatry at The George Washington University, where she served as chief resident.
Dr. Kels has a clinical interest in the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in women, particularly during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Her research interests include mental health in medical education and novel treatments for mood disorders.
She is an active member of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) National Faculty, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians. She is also honored to serve on the Bexar County Medical Society Board of Directors and on the Texas Medical Association Council on Medical Education.
