John LoCurto, JD
Assistant Professor Clinical and Applied Science Education, Master's ProgramsJohn J. LoCurto is the inaugural Assistant Professor of Medical Jurisprudence & Health Policy in the Department of Clinical and Applied Science Education at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. He teaches across the four-year medical school curriculum and in UIWSOM’s graduate medical education, Master of Public Health, and Master of Biomedical Science programs.
Prior to joining UIWSOM, John practiced law for 20 years, devoting most of his career to public service at the United States Department of Justice. John was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas in San Antonio, where his practice focused on health care fraud, whistleblower and controlled substances cases. He rose through the ranks at the United States Attorney’s Office to become Deputy Chief of the Civil Division. In this role, he oversaw and coordinated the District's Affirmative Civil Enforcement, Civil Health Care Fraud, Civil Drug Diversion, and Parallel Proceedings programs.
John earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his B.A. from the College of William & Mary. He is working on his M.A. in bioethics at The Ohio State University. His interests include how the healthcare and justice systems interact; healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse; and the legal determinants of health.
