Chair of Osteopathic Principles and Practice | Professor of Family Medicine & OMM Clinical and Applied Science Education

Carol Browne, DO FACOFP is the Chair of the Department of Osteopathic Principles and Practice. She joined the faculty of UIWSOM in July 2016 after working in private practice as a family physician and osteopathic manipulative medicine specialist for 17 years in both Missouri and Florida. Dr. Browne received her B.A. in Biology at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, and her D.O. degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC-TCOM). She completed her residency in Family Practice at the Fort Worth Osteopathic Medical Center and is board certified in both Family Medicine (AOBFP) and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM-OMM). In 2022, she earned her ACOFP Fellowship. In 2023, she was recognized nationally as the ACOFP Outstanding Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year. In 2024, she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. 

Dr. Browne’s previous academic experience includes serving as a faculty member at UNTHSC-TCOM for 10 years in both the Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine departments. She received several honors while on the TCOM faculty, including the Coleman Clinical Faculty of the Year, the Apple Award for Clinical Faculty of the Year, Honors Professor for Pre-Clinical Division, the Gender Equity Award, as well as the National Student Osteopathic Association George Northrup Award for Osteopathic Educator of the Year. While in private practice, Dr. Browne served as a clinical clerkship preceptor for osteopathic students and residents. 

In addition to her faculty responsibilities, Dr. Browne is a director on the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and serves as the UIWSOM representative on the AACOM Educational Council of Osteopathic Principles. She is a Texas Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians past president, and currently a Texas Osteopathic Medical Association trustee. She is a former National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examination COMLEX Level 2 & 3 item writer and test reviewer.
