Terence McGarvey, PhD

Terence W. McGarvey, Ph.D. is looking forward to teaching Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, and Histology to the Biomedical Graduate students and the medical students at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, and Anatomy from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University of Chicago, and was trained to teach Gross Anatomy, Histology and Neuroanatomy. Dr. McGravey migrated to the Philadelphia area to do a post-doctoral fellowship on the molecular genetics of prostate cancer at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexal University Medical School). He spent ten years doing research on the molecular biology of bladder cancer at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, while also teaching part time. Dr. McGravey finally returned to teach full time first to undergraduate pre-medical students Gross Anatomy, Histology, and Introductory Biology at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA (the home of the Little League World Series). Before coming here for the last six years, he taught Gross Anatomy as an Associate Professor to Osteopathic Medical students at A.T. Still University, Kirksville, Missouri. However, he is now looking forward to teaching at the University of the Incarnate Word using newer student centered learning techniques. In addition, Dr. McGarvey's research is now centered on understanding the role of vitamin K in the prevention of neuropathologies such as Alzheimer's disease.
