Douglas Warden, MD

Dr. Warden is the Assistant Dean of Medical and Interprofessional Education at the University of Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a native Texan, born and raised in central Texas before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Baylor University. He earned his MD degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine - Scott and White Hospital followed by a year of research at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. His research primarily focused on exploring the autoimmune nature of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. During this time Dr. Warden developed skills in research database development which sparked a career-long interest in information management.

Following residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Oklahoma, where he served as Co-Chief Resident, Dr. Warden completed fellowship training in hematopathology at Cleveland Clinic. Special interests included identifying novel markers for the microscopic differentiation of low grade B-cell neoplasms in the bone marrow.

Dr. Warden spent five years as a hospital-based group-practice pathologist in San Antonio, where he served as Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Services at St Luke's Baptist Hospital and director of the Laboratory Hematology and Coagulation service for the Baptist Health System.

Dr. Warden is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology. He has additional interests in evidence-based medicine and in utilizing technology to improve access and quality in medical care.
