Douglas W. Warden, MD

Assistant Dean of Medical Education Medical Education

Dr. Warden is the Associate Dean of Medical Education at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). A native of Central Texas, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Baylor University and his MD from the Texas A&M University College of Medicine – Scott and White Hospital. He then completed a year of research at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, where he focused on the autoimmune mechanisms of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). This experience also sparked a lasting interest in research database development and information management. 

Dr. Warden completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Oklahoma, serving as Co-Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in Hematopathology at the Cleveland Clinic. His academic interests included identifying novel diagnostic markers for differentiating low-grade B-cell neoplasms in the bone marrow. 

Before joining UIWSOM, Dr. Warden practiced for five years as a hospital-based pathologist in San Antonio, where he served as Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Services at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital and directed the Laboratory Hematology and Coagulation services for the Baptist Health System. 

A founding faculty member at UIWSOM, Dr. Warden helped develop the pathology curriculum for the inaugural class. He continues to teach hematology, coagulation, and hematopoietic neoplasms. In his leadership role, he oversees curriculum design, assessment, and program evaluation for the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program, including direct oversight of the Phase I (preclinical) curriculum.
