The UIWSOM MPH curriculum prepares learners to address complex public health challenges through a comprehensive study of the core public health disciplines, including epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and management, social and behavioral sciences, environmental health, and public health ethics. Through a learner-centered approach, students develop the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical competencies needed to serve effectively in local, state, national and global public health settings or to integrate public health principles into their current healthcare careers.

MPH Admission Requirements and Prerequisites

Applicants to the Master of Public Health program must complete a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before matriculating into the program. International applicants must provide equivalent degree verification.

Required Bachelor’s Degree

Applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or the international equivalent, before beginning the program. Applicants are encouraged to have:

  • Course experience in areas such as biology, chemistry, algebra and statistics, or professional experience using similar quantitative skills
  • Volunteer or work experience in a public health-related field, or a clearly articulated interest in public health

Prerequisite College Courses

Prerequisite coursework must be completed at an accredited college or university with a grade of “C” or better. Applicants must achieve a minimum science and cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Required prerequisite courses include:

  • Biology: at least 3 semester credit hours
  • Mathematics: Algebra or Statistics, 6 semester credit hours

General Frequently Asked Questions

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Students admitted into the program may begin classes full- or part-time at three points annually: Summer, Fall I and Spring I.

The MPH program accepts applications on a rolling basis per semester. To ensure sufficient time for application review and enrollment, applicants are encouraged to submit all required materials by the following dates:

  • Fall 2026 Entry: July 17
  • Spring 2027 Entry: December 7
  • Summer 2027 Entry: May 3

Required application documents include:

  • A personal statement and brief written responses
  • A resume or CV
  • Official transcripts
  • TOEFL scores (if applicable)
  • Two letters of recommendation (from faculty and/or a professional supervisor)

No. There are no application or enrollment deposit fees required for the MPH program.

Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

There are no specific majors required for admission into our MPH program.

Bachelor’s Degree

Completion of 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent verification in the case of international degrees prior to matriculation into the program.

  • It is recommended that applicants have course experience in areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, and Statistics (or professional experience using similar quantitative skills.)

A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is preferred for admission to the MPH program. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may still be considered for admission. The MPH Admissions Committee conducts a holistic review of each application, including letters of recommendation, the personal statement, academic performance and other supporting materials. Based on this review, applicants may be offered either conditional or unconditional admission.
No. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required for admission to the MPH program.
No. The UIW MPH program does not require a thesis. Instead, students complete an Applied Practice Experience (APE) and an Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), which include practical, competency-based assignments and a final presentation. The ILE serves as the program's culminating experience and is typically completed during the student's final semester prior to graduation.
Currently, students enrolled in the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Program (OMS II and above) and the Feik School of Pharmacy PharmD Program may apply to the MPH program. Applicants must be in good academic and professional standing to be eligible for admission.
The UIWSOM MPH program is designed to meet the needs of busy early- and mid-career professionals. Courses are delivered in a fully online, asynchronous format, allowing students to complete coursework on a schedule that fits their personal and professional commitments. Depending on their start term and enrollment status, students may complete the program in as few as five semesters when enrolled full-time. Part-time students have up to seven years to complete the degree.
Yes. The UIWSOM MPH program is offered fully online in an asynchronous format, providing students with the flexibility to complete coursework on their own schedule while balancing personal and professional responsibilities.
No. Prospective students are not required to identify or secure a faculty advisor before applying to the MPH program. Once admitted to the UIWSOM MPH program, each student is assigned a faculty advisor who will provide guidance and support throughout the program.
Yes. Students enrolled in the UIWSOM MPH program may apply to the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine DO program and other UIW Health Professions programs while completing their MPH degree. Admission to these programs is a separate process and is based on the particular school's  admission requirements and review procedures.
