Federal Direct Student Loans are low-interest loans that must be repaid at a future date, usually beginning six months after graduation, periods of non-enrollment or less than half-time enrollment. An unsubsidized loan is not awarded on the basis of need. Interest is accrued from the time the loan is disbursed until it is paid in full.

Graduate PLUS Loans are unsubsidized, credit-based loans that graduate students may apply for to assist with educational expenses. Loan eligibility is based on credit history, a minimum of half-time enrollment and completion of a FAFSA.
