Dr. Ami Chatrath was born in San Jose, California before his family moved to San Antonio, Texas at age 15. He graduated as valedictorian from John Paul Stevens High School in 2010 and attended Texas Tech University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2014. He then remained at Texas Tech and attended the Rawls College of Business to obtain his Master of Business Administration in 2015.

Dr. Chatrath attended medical school at the University of North Texas - Health Science Center from 2015 - 2019. He completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) - San Antonio where he served as chief resident of University Hospital from 2022 - 2023.

Dr. Chatrath opted to complete his residency at UTHSC - San Antonio due to its diversity of clinical training sites and robust didactic curriculum. His residency training involved the treatment of the indigent population of San Antonio at University Hospital, military veterans at the South Texas VA, and active-duty military members at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Following residency, Dr. Chatrath pursued private practice and is the co-founder of wiseMIND, a psychiatric practice in San Antonio. His decision for pursuing private practice was to tailor psychiatric care to best meet the needs of his patients and be able to offer new and emerging treatment options for the people of South Texas. The practice currently offers PRISM, an FDA-cleared treatment for PTSD. His patient population includes the LGBTQIA+ population, individuals suffering from trauma, and men.

Dr. Chatrath began serving as associate program director for didactics for TIGMER Psychiatry in 2025. His desire to remain engaged in resident education is to help assist the next generation of psychiatrists feel well equipped and confident to treat the patients they serve. Specifically, he currently provides mentorship to PGY-4 residents as they prepare for their career post-residency.

He serves at the Secretary-Treasurer for the Bexar County Psychiatric Society. Additionally, he remains involved with his college alma mater by serving as a member of the Texas Tech University Honors College Advisory Board. He works with his peers to help advance the mission of the Honors College and to advocate for students that are interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

He has been married to his husband since 2019. They began their relationship in 2012 and maintained a long-distance relationship until they married at the start of psychiatry residency. Outside of clinical care, he enjoys physical fitness, hiking, and traveling domestically and abroad.
