Rhett A. Reichard, PhD
Associate Professor, Physiology and Neurology Clinical and Applied Science Education Email: reichard@uiwtx.eduDr. Rhett Reichard is an Associate Professor of Physiology and Neurology in the Department of Clinical and Applied Science Education at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). He also serves as Course Director for Biomedical Physiology in the Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Program, where he leads curriculum design, coordinates faculty instruction, and supports student preparation for medical and graduate health-professional pathways.
Dr. Reichard earned his PhD in Pharmacology and Physiology from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where his dissertation examined the integrative contributions of forebrain output structures embedded in the reward pathway to motivational and behavioral state regulation. He completed postdoctoral training at the National Addiction Research Center at the Medical University of South Carolina, conducting research on stress-induced drug seeking, oxytocin’s modulatory effects on affective behavior, and prefrontal–thalamic circuitry involved in addiction and withdrawal-related anxiety.
Prior to joining UIWSOM, Dr. Reichard held faculty appointments at Western Atlantic University School of Medicine, Saba University School of Medicine, and Briar Cliff University. Across these institutions, he contributed to curriculum development, faculty governance, active-learning implementation, and medical education scholarship. He has extensive experience mentoring student research and has presented his work at national neuroscience and health-professions education conferences. Outside the classroom, Dr. Reichard enjoys anything outdoors, watching NBA basketball and island hopping with his wife.
