Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health and Founding Dean (retired) Master's Programs

Robyn Phillips-Madson, DO, MPH, FACOFP, is a Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health, and the Founding Dean (retired 2022) of the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Dr. Madson practiced family medicine in Seattle, WA for 27 years. She then led the nascent Pacific Northwest University College of Osteopathic Medicine through to full accreditation and served as its Dean from January 2009 through July 2013. While in Yakima, Dr. Phillips-Madson was a member of the Yakima Health District Board. 

Dr. Phillips-Madson has served as a commissioner on the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) since 2017 and is its current Vice Chair. She also is the Director of Medical Education and Medical School Partnerships at the Ulrich and Ruth Frank Foundation (www.nextgenu.org), and a member of the Whatcom County Public Health Advisory Board. She has served on numerous boards, including WOMA, NWOMF, AACOM, DOCARE International and Reach Beyond Borders which supports medical and dental outreach in Guatemala.

She has a passion for medical education curriculum transformation informed by learner-centeredness, patient outcomes and social accountability.  Her academic interests include the social determinants of health, spirituality in medicine, health policy, public health, empathy, ethics, social accountability and patient and community-oriented primary care.  

The following verse informs her teaching philosophy: “If you wait at wisdom’s doorway, longing to hear a word for every day, joy will break forth within you as you listen for what I (wisdom) will say.
