Leslie Jernigan, MA

Clinical and Applied Science Education

Leslie Jernigan joined UIWSOM as a SIGS facilitator in the spring of 2024 after more than thirty years of work with students, schools, and families. She earned her B.S. degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston in 1987 and her M.A. degree in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 1991. She began her career as a school psychologist and later became director of assessment for a cognitive learning center, with a concentration in dyslexia assessment and intervention. Leslie is a strong proponent of the small group dynamic and what can be accomplished in that setting, and finds working with adult learners to be uniquely rewarding.

Leslie is a hospice volunteer, has completed coursework toward becoming an end-of life doula, and has been a facilitator of small groups for classes on death and dying. She is especially drawn to work with those who may be facing the end of life marginalized and alone.

A native of South Carolina, since 2000 Leslie and her husband have lived in San Antonio where they raised two daughters and a succession of dogs. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, photography, and exploring how meditation and mindfulness can inform living and dying.
