Amanda Galán-Davila, PhD

Dr. Amanda Galan-Davila is an Assistant Professor of Cellular and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and joined the UIWSOM team in 2016. Dr. Galan earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) in cellular and molecular biology. During her time at TAMUCC, she was involved in molecular research studying the stress response of the marine microbe, Vibrio vulnificus, which is found in the Gulf of Mexico. V. vulnificus a common culprit of infections due to 'flesh-eating bacterium' and often infects immunocompromised individuals and diabetics.

Dr. Galan received her doctoral degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), now UT Health - San Antonio, in cellular and structural biology with a concentration in the biology of aging. During her time at UT Health, she studied the molecular regulation of insulin sensitivity during obesity and aging. Specifically, she investigated the molecular regulation of adiponectin signaling on insulin sensitivity in diet-induced insulin resistance and aging with a focus on the liver. She has presented her research at the national level at American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions and has publications in scientific journals such as Cell Reports and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
