UIW Begins Work on New Med School

November 10, 2014

The University of the Incarnate Word today began work converting the historic buildings that were formerly the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base into the new UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

The four building complex will increase the medical presence at what is now Brooks City Base to the point where it will rival it's northwest side counterpart, according to U.S. Rep Lloyd Doggett (D-San Antonio).

"There will come a time in a few years in San Antonio where when people say, 'I'll meet you at the Medical Center,' the first thing they will ask is 'is it Medical Center North of Medical Center South,' Doggett said.

UIW President Lou Agnese has long dreamed of adding a medical school to the university's programs.  A plan to build the facility on the grounds of the Fox Tech High School athletic fields failed to materialize, but Brooks City Base stepped in.
