Sarah Murphy Cuapio serves as the Phase II Coordinator for the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. A proud UIW alumna and U.S. Navy veteran, she brings more than 20 years of experience in military medicine, healthcare operations, clinical education, and program management.
Sarah began her military career as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy, serving in emergency medicine, operational medicine, and clinical education roles at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune and U.S. Naval Hospital Guam. During her military service, she coordinated the Resuscitative Medicine Program, served as an instructor, and provided training in emergency response, trauma care, and medical readiness for military personnel. She supported both hospital-based and field medical operations and deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
Following her military career, Sarah continued supporting military healthcare through leadership positions with the Defense Health Agency and Military Treatment Facilities. She has directed large-scale healthcare programs, led multidisciplinary teams, implemented enterprise-wide operational initiatives, and partnered with military commands to expand access to virtual healthcare for service members and their families. She has also collaborated with senior military leaders to develop innovative virtual healthcare initiatives that improved access to care while supporting military readiness and medical education.
As a UIW alumna, Sarah is honored to return to her alma mater and support the next generation of osteopathic physicians while advancing UIW’s mission of service, compassion, and excellence.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, gardening, and serving her community through her Catholic faith.
