Office of Clinical Affairs

The Office of Clinical Affairs oversees Phase II of the UIWSOM Curriculum. Phase II takes place during the third and fourth years of the UIWSOM program and is centered on providing learners with hands-on clinical experience.

During the third year, learners complete eight of the core rotations, each lasting six weeks. These core rotations are:

  • Family Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Women's Health
  • Underserved (Rural, Military, Correctional)
  • Hospital Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine

Third year students take part in weekly didactic activities, and also take part in a week of mentoring and feedback every 12 weeks.

In the fourth year, learners complete a required four-week Emergency Medicine core rotation, three selectives (two medical, one surgical), and five elective rotations.

COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE and Level 2-PE examinations take place during Phase II. Phase II ends with a three week Ready for Residency unit, during which learners are assessed for the entry-level ACGME PGY1 Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs).
