Roberto Fajardo, PhD
Associate Professor
Dr. Fajardo is part of the Structures team that teaches anatomy to osteopathic medical learners and biomedical science masters students. He also co-directs the unit on the musculoskeletal system in the DO program. Additionally, Dr. Fajardo conducts research at the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine. His areas of interest include diabetic skeletal fragility and orthopaedic health disparities.
In 2004, Dr. Fajardo received his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in Anthropological Sciences. His advisor was Dr. Brigitte Demes. He then worked at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School for seven years as a post-doc and an instructor before moving to San Antonio. He joined the faculty at the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018, after working for nine years in the Department of Orthopedics at UT Health San Antonio.
Dr. Fajardo also organizes a yearly pediatric foreign medical mission to Neiva, Colombia in association with Healing the Children-Florida. He has been involved with this medical mission since 2005. This program, supported by the UIW SOM and Dr. Fajardo, provides opportunities for learner involvement on a yearly basis.
