Anatomy and Laboratory Teaching Assistant

Sanum Khan, MS is an Anatomy Instructor in the Department of Clinical and Applied Science Education at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM). She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with honors from St. Mary’s University and her Master’s Degree (MS) in Anatomical Sciences from UT Health San Antonio. Ms. Khan’s graduate and post-graduate work focused on integrating the three-dimensional visualization program BodyViz into the first- and second-year medical students’ gross anatomy courses through the development of group-directed case studies and director-led lectures. During her graduate career, she received the 2016 Armand J. Guarino Award for Academic Excellence, and the Cell Systems and Anatomy Departmental Retreat Best Poster Award in the Master’s Program category.

Ms. Khan joined UIWSOM in July 2017 after working at UT Health for two years. She is responsible for planning and preparing cadaveric dissections corresponding to weekly topics for the concurrent anatomy courses. She assists in the organizing of intercollegiate anatomical experiences, as well as supports other areas of the UIWSOM curriculum to ensure smooth implementation. Ms. Khan is interested in attending medical school in the future.
