Mr. H. Michael Young, MDiv, BBS, CHSE is a recognized leader in the field of simulation operations (SimOps). Co-author and editor of Healthcare Simulation: A Guide for Operations Specialists (Gantt & Young, 2016), is the first book focusing on the role of the operations specialist. Mr. Young entered the healthcare simulation field in 2006 at Tarleton State University, and quickly immersed himself in the technology, techniques, and concepts of simulation-based education as he supported the BSN program. By 2010, Young became involved in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and various committees and Special Interest Groups, especially the simulation technicians’ group. In 2013, Michael was appointed to the SSH Board of Directors as a Director at Large. SSH was committed to integrating technicians into its membership. In 2013, Young was also asked to chair a work group that explored the creation of a new professional certification for the role of “Simulation Technician.” This certification is a compliment to the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and became the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists (CHSOS). Mr. Young chaired the CHSOS subcommittee through its evolution the SSH Certification Committee transitioned to the SSH Certification Council and until June 2019.

Working in the healthcare simulation field since 2006, Michael continues to contribute to the growth and evolution of simulation operations specialists. Earlier this year, Young accepted a position on the Editorial Board of SSH STORM, which will address Simulation Technology and Operations Resource Magazine (S.T.O.R.M). In January 2019, Mr. Young began his role as the Operations Manager for the Center for Interprofessional Experiential Learning and Observation (CIELO) in the School of Osteopathic Medicine, University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
