John LoCurto, JD

Assistant Professor

John J. LoCurto is an Assistant Professor of Medical Jurisprudence and Health Policy in the Department of Clinical and Applied Science Education at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. He practiced law for nearly 20 years, devoting most of his career to public service at the United States Department of Justice. He most recently served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas here in San Antonio, where his practice focused on health care fraud, whistleblower and controlled substances cases. John rose through the ranks at the United States Attorney’s Office to become Assistant Chief of the Civil Division. In this role, he oversaw and coordinated the District's Affirmative Civil Enforcement, Civil Health Care Fraud and Civil Drug Diversion programs.

In 2018, John left traditional law practice for higher education. He served as Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Texas A&M University-San Antonio and as an Adjunct Professor at St. Mary's University School of Law.

John earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law, and his B.A. from the College of William & Mary. His interests include how our health care and justice systems interact, social justice and determinants of health, ethics and the administrative state.

John is married to his law school sweetheart. He and his wife have two kids, two rescue dogs and a rotating cast of foster animals.
