Recruitment Coordinator

Gilbert Hernández is the Recruitment Coordinator for the Admissions Office in the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine. Mr. Hernández has considerable expertise in recruitment, admissions, enrollment management and retention, community outreach, and grant management. He has developed, implemented, and assessed institutional recruitment initiatives that incorporated state/federal grants. Under his leadership, these initiatives increased student enrollment, and improved student retention, persistence, and graduation rates. Mr. Hernández has a special interest in language acquisition, academic/cultural programming, mentorship programs, community outreach, student leadership development, and international studies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature and Language with highest honors, and a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature and Language. Prior to joining the UIWSOM family, Mr. Hernández worked for Texas A&M University-Commerce where he managed a 5-year, $1,595,495 Federal Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. During his tenure, he was recognized with the following awards: Employee of the Month (2016), Inaugural Global Fellow (2015), Vice President's Leadership Award (2015), Hispanic Outreach Staff of the Year (2012), and two A&M-Commerce President's Meritorious Service Awards (2008, 2012). His hobbies include working out, playing music, and eating great food.
